This practical short course introduces you to the core craft of screenwriting as you create your own original short film script. Over 12 weeks, you’ll go from your first ideas to a finished, polished screenplay of five to ten pages. Along the way, you’ll learn how to develop a premise and logline, build conflict, create strong characters, structure a short narrative, construct scenes, write effective dialogue and redraft your work.
Designed for beginners and emerging writers, the course focuses on writing rather than film production. You’ll learn through guided exercises, screenings, individual writing tasks, peer feedback, pitching and table reads, following the same development process used in the industry: idea, premise, logline, treatment, structure, scenes, first draft, feedback, redrafting and final polish.
By the end of the course, you’ll have an original short screenplay and a practical understanding of how scripts are developed from start to finish.
