Introduction to Filmmaking - Summer School

Explore visual storytelling in full technicolour with this hands-on five-day summer school in film production. Whether you’re starting from scratch or want to sharpen your skills, this intensive course introduces the key stages of filmmaking, from developing an idea to capturing and shaping footage.

Course Overview

Build the core skills to bring stories to life on screen in this five-day filmmaking summer school. Designed for beginners, this intensive course gives you a practical introduction to how films are planned, shot and shaped in post-production.

Across the week, you’ll take part in hands-on workshops that mix discussion, film analysis and practical exercises. You’ll explore how meaning is created on screen, how to plan and shoot a scene, and how to bring everything together through editing.

Delivered at SAE campuses across the UK, the course covers visual storytelling, camera basics, lighting, sound recording and the essentials of post-production. You’ll also get a feel for how real productions run, working with others in a studio setting and trying out different creative roles.
