Course Overview

This practical, hands-on course introduces the art and science of audio mastering. Beginning with critical listening and monitoring fundamentals, students will learn how to evaluate and prepare mixes before developing structured mastering workflows and signal chains. The course then explores key processing techniques including EQ, compression, harmonic enhancement, stereo imaging, and limiting, alongside loudness and delivery considerations for modern formats. Sessions take place in SAE’s specialist mixing and mastering facilities, giving students access to professional monitoring environments and industry-standard tools. The course culminates in a guest-led mastering session and a final project, equipping students with the confidence to master their own tracks and an understanding of how to pursue mastering as a professional discipline.
